Baking a cake is no cakewalk. You need to be sure of all the ingredients, their proportions, and the stage at which a certain ingredient goes into the baking process. While there are many tips and tricks for making a fluffy and moist cake, possessing the essential tools is also very important. So, here's a call for avid bakers: It is time you check your tools before you go any further.

No one ever said baking a cake was easy, but with the right tools, anyone can begin their baking journey. As the saying goes, "A bad workman blames his tools," so pick the right tools to avoid any blame. Right from mixing the batter, spreading it in a cake tin, baking it, and checking the fluffiness with a pin, each step requires precision and patience.

To get the perfect amount of cream on your cake with a beautiful design, utilize pastry filling tubes and tips when making a cake with icing. Although measuring cups, spoons, spatulas, and turntables are necessary, there are other essential baking tools to keep within reach while baking a cake.

Ideally, one should stock up on various sizes and shapes of cake pans. A few round ones and a few square ones can do the job well. Moreover, the height of the cake pan is what matters most. It should be at least 2 inches high so that the cake batter can fit well into it. If it is bigger, it will occupy too much space, and anything thinner wouldn’t hold much cake batter.

These are more of a cake decorating tool than a baking tool. However, they are equally important to make the final outcome look good. The pastry bags should be about 12 to 18 inches in size to hold a considerable amount of frosting. Make sure to wash the reusable ones properly, or else buy disposable ones.

Mixing the various ingredients that go into baking a cake is no easy task. Stirring for hours to get the right consistency is a tedious thing to do. So, opt for stand mixers instead. These mixers usually have a bowl connected at the bottom and different attachments so that you can use them for a variety of recipes.

This is the halfway point between taking the cake out of the oven and putting it in the fridge. If you keep it on the cake pan for too long, it might stick, and putting it in the fridge immediately would make it lose its fluffiness. You need to cool it down to room temperature, and that’s where cooling racks come in. Buy at least two cooling racks or a big one so that your huge cakes fit on it.

This brush might not seem like a big deal at first, but guess what? It is actually one of the most useful baking tools. While for cakes, you might want to brush a little oil on the pan, for other baked goods, soaking the sugar syrup or simply greasing some butter on top is possible only with the help of a pastry brush.
